THE BOAT

They waited for a boat that never came.

Stuck,

Somewhere halfway,

They forgot where they came from,

Forgot those who expected them.

Sometimes, they see faces in their dreams,

They can’t recognize.

Years later, when a boat did come,

They tied her to a tree trunk by the river.

There she stays,

Stuck,

Somewhere halfway,

Between where she came from,

And where she was meant to sail.
